Reducing casualties

See Me Save Me focuses on designing danger out at source. This means eliminating the blind spot on lorries.

Anyone who drives an HGV or has participated in an Exchanging Places event will appreciate the limited view afforded by the six regulation mirrors. These provide six separate images, all with different focal points and hence different distortions of size, distance and speed. And the image in the close proximity mirror is inverted. The UK’s Transport Research Laboratory(TRL) found that these mirrors are not just very difficult to use but leave blind spots, where vulnerable road users are invisible to the driver.

Safety can also be improved by fitting lorries with safety equipment. This equipment includes side guards, mirrors, motion sensors, cameras and audio devices.
