Radical ideas that could save lives on London’s roads

Road safety experts at the Transport Research Laboratory at Crowthorne, Berkshire, are investigating how to adapt London to cope with the cycling boom. Funding of £2million, provided by Transport for London, is being used to investigate: Dutch-style roundabouts prioritising cyclists; low-level traffic lights for riders; and hi-tech sensors attached to thousands of Boris bikes, to curb the rising number of collisions with HGVs.

FORS launches cycle safety toolkit

Transport for London, in partnership with Barclays Cycle Superhighways have developed a toolkit which offers practical advice to help fleet operators to minimise the risk of collisions between HGVs and vulnerable road users. The toolkit includes:

  • A series of 6 posters aimed at raising awareness for drivers

Transport for London publishes TRL commissioned first independent review into construction logistics and cyclist safety
