Supporting families
This website is dedicated to reducing lorry danger and saving lives.
But it is also dedicated to helping those whose suffering was not avoided. Whilst we have highlighted here how frequent deaths and serious injuries are from lorries, we know that when it happens to you, it will not feel like that.
Time and time again, we have heard from families how much it has helped to talk to other people who have ‘been there’. This is why we provide a helpline, befriender network and an on-line discussion forum for those whose lives have been changed forever by lorry collisions.
We also run a Resilience Building programme, which brings bereaved families together, working with trauma facilitators, to help with developing coping strategies.
And we are not the only ones that offer support. Many of our members belong to The Compassionate Friends, the charity for bereaved parents, and many recommend WAY (Windowed & Young), for those who have lost their partner. See RoadPeace website for
list of other associations.
And whilst it may not feel like things could get worse, RoadPeace believes that lack of information can make it worse. We provide information on the post-crash legal procedures to help families understand the key procedures of collision investigation, inquest, criminal prosecution and civil compensation. These are all areas that most families will be unfamiliar with, and will need to navigate at a time when even routine tasks pose a challenge.
